Bestowed upon Baroness von Neumann’s father-in-law, the symbol represents Dr. von Neumann’s dedication to the field of otolaryngology. Internationally recognized for his exemplary work and groundbreaking achievements in the ear, nose and throat specialty, the physician and surgeon personally cared for and treated thousands of people, including the Kings of England and Spain.


The Star of David

As a Jewish doctor in Austria during World War II, Dr. von Neumann took strength in his Jewish identity. Often referred to as the Shield of King David, the star has come to illuminate the united bond between God and the Jewish people. Comprised of two overlapping triangles, it also acknowledges humanity’s dual nature, and with the symbol’s six points, God’s power over the universe in all directions —north, south, east, west, up and down.
